Online and Open Source Projects

These are the things I'm currently working on. Drop me a line if you find anything here that you'd want to work on as well! I'm always looking for good coders, designers, project managers, and writers to help with something or other.

Binary Spring

Binary Spring is my interdisciplinary research and development company. Our focus is cutting-edge web technologies, but we're known to work on any number of advanced systems. I'm growing this company into a democracy of partnerships like I describe in my book Owning Conversation.

If you have a project for us, send us a note about what you'd like to build. If you're interested in working with us, send me links to your resume and portfolio to get started.

Edifice Press

Edifice Press represents my take on publishing. Social capital and physical capital play by different rules, but most publishers don't respect those distinctions. In many ways, Edifice Press is growing to fill the space between brick and mortar distribution and peer-to-peer distribution as an "open source publisher". It is slated to open in late 2008.

If you're interested in the theory of the human condition or are an interdisciplinary author looking to be published, talk to me to get on the notify list for when we open.

Everything2

Everything2 Screenshot

Everything2 is one of the internet's oldest and largest writing communities. There is a common misconception that I wrote Eeverything2 - I didn't. I've just been around there a very long time, on (volunteer) staff since 2002, and served as Director of Operations from 2005 to 2008. We operate with the help of a few dozen volunteer admins, coders, and editors under funding by the University of Michigan. We have hundreds of thousands of writers and millions of writeups. You will find something there that will blow your mind.

If you're a writer looking to improve your writing, go there and sign up for an account. It's free, and you'll get a lot out of it. If you're a talented editor, coder (in perl), designer, or project manager with time to spare and a passion for writing, drop me a line and we'll see where you can fit.

Fragmented Zen

Fragmented Zen is the hub of my online world. It's delightfully "meta" to speak of this here, but I should mention it because it requires a good amount of attention investment to keep things updated. This contains my portfolios, essays, resumes, photography, and biography. I'm also finishing up two books to be published in late 2008 while taking a full load of classes at UTA to finish my interdisciplinary degree in artificial intelligence and computational linguistics.

LaTeX Tutorials

LaTeX tutorials (regarding the typesetting program, not the fashion statement) is an online guide to elegant typesetting using the LaTeX platform. Its development is parallel with Edifice Press. In order for publishing to thrive as open source, people will need to know how to work with the source. This site is growing into a guide to help with that.

Nodegel

Nodegel Screenshot

Nodegel is my take on an application development framework in perl. Built on a neural permissioning and trust management design pattern, nodegel integrates MVC design with an elegant ORM to allow rapid, stable development of trust-based web applications.

If you're interested in multidimensional neural network architectures and traversal techniques, let me know. This is a back-burner project of mine due to the sheer volume of architecture it requires. I could use some help with it.

Public Graph

Public Graph Screenshot

Public Graph is a social map of the public spaceWithin elected office, who funds whom? Who has worked with whom, and how does influence flow between the corporate, nonprofit, and public sectors of the world economy? Public Graph answers these questions using a multidimensional neural network model of public figures and public relationships.

It's built off of the nodegel framework, and offers unique insights into how power functions along social and physical capital exchanges. If you can help me finish up the code for this, or if you want in on the beta, drop me a line.

Skip Jump Studios

Skip Jump Studios is a web design startup based in Dallas, TX. We concentrate on simple, standard, scalable, supportable design with strong emphasis on minimalism and modernism. This company is growing into the graphic and web design analog of Binary Spring.

If you're interested in working with us, send me links to your resume and portfolio to get in on the ground floor.

Veldra Suite

Veldra Suite Screenshot

Veldra Suite is a group of applications to simplify your online world. Written in Ruby on Rails, it's goal is to grow into an online attention-management application suite. The task tracker is complete, as are all tests and the deployment script, but I'm still working on a half dozen other modules: email, personal wiki, RSS feeds, calendar, chat, and file manager / transfer.

If you're interested in testing features, go there and sign up for an account, then let me know what you think. If you're interested in hearing about the formal launch in mid-2009, contact me to get on the announce list.
